Two other boys, the 6-year-old and an 8-year-old, and the teenager were flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where they were listed in critical condition.

One child is dead and three others are in critical condition after their wagon was struck by a vehicle in southern New Jersey.

Jairisa Galindo, 18, was pulling Jyonshiel and Kahariel Martinez, 6, in a wagon, according to police, while John Giles, 8, was walking next to them. The group, all of Southampton, were then hit by Thomas Xenakis Jr., 37, also of Southampton, who was driving a BMW sedan east on Buddtown Road, a rural road with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour with no sidewalks, shoulders or street lights, according to troopers from the Red Lion Station in Southampton. State police said there was no indication that excessive speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.

“At this time, the details and circumstances of the crash are under investigation”, Jones said.

The youngest child in the group, who police say may be between the ages of 3 and 4, later died from his or her injuries. “So we came running out and we saw them lying on the grass and in the road”.

“Besides the two kids lying on the side of the street, there was a girl lying in the middle of the street”.
