1 dead in shooting at Tennessee State University in Nashville

Those involved were playing a dice game in an outdoor courtyard on the campus before shots were fired. Glover also required all students to visibly wear their university-issued identification while on campus and said weapons are prohibited on campus. The patrols focused on residence halls and the inner campus area, which includes the student courtyard where last week’s fatal shooting took place.

According to the police, the shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. The other two were treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and released on Friday.

A student from Southfield was one of three people shot Thursday at Tennessee State University. One had been released by Friday morning, while the other was in stable condition and was expected to make a full recovery, Aaron said.

‘Tennessee State University and the community that surrounds it is an incredibly important part of the fabric of our city, ‘ she said.

A third 18-year-old female student suffered “a very minor graze” and did not need medical treatment, police said.

Police said an argument erupted over a dice game, which escalated into a physical fight, and then gunshots rang out.

Aaron says the shooting was an isolated incident.

The incident occurred during a student gathering in which two men not enrolled at the university may have been gambling, according to Sharpe.

Tanya Stone, operations supervisor for the Metro Nashville emergency communication center, said early Friday that she didn’t know if the three shot were students.

She said police are “all over the scene” and there’s no indication of an active shooter.

A university spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Glover said TSU has a zero tolerance policy for guns on campus and expressed frustration at the violence.
