1 injured in Wisconsin mall shooting on busy shopping day

Witnesses say a group of young men began fighting in the middle of the mall at around 2:50 p.m.

It’s not clear if the mall will be reopened Saturday.

“This is not an active shooter”. The 19-year-old was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

East Towne Mall in Madison was closed Saturday afternoon following a shooting inside the building. Police were investigating to determine whether the incident was gang-related.

“It’s been described to me as a fairly chaotic scene, as you might imagine with what has gone on in Paris and California”, Despain said, referring to recent terror attacks. The FBI is investigating the case as an act of terrorism.

A notice posted on the mall website says: “The mall is temporarily closed due to a safety concern”.

East Towne Mall is an 840,000-square-foot shopping center with 110 specialty retailers, according to its website. The dispatcher refused to reveal any more information about the incident. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
