Winners can choose from a lump-sum payment based on the approximate cash value of the jackpot ($51.2 million) or a 30-year annuity with payments of approximately $2 million each issued to the victor on an annual basis. Officials tell news that “There were three tickets that won the $1 Million Match 5 prize, except in CA where prizes are required to be pari-mutuel and may pay more or less than $1 Million”. The odds of winning the jackpot with a $1 ticket are 1-in-13,983,816.
In addition to federal taxes, if the victor lives in a state that taxes lottery winnings, the percentage that the state charges will be deducted from the winner’s payment.
