Two people are missing after a small plane crashed in Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans, authorities said.

Police said divers were beginning the work of locating the wreckage as well as the two men who remained missing in the crash.

The Coast Guard said Sunday in a news release that a helicopter crew and a 29-foot response boat were searching the area, and that a state rescue crew found what appeared to be wings.

He says a professional diver helped find the wreckage Sunday afternoon, about 1,000 feet west of the runway it was heading for when it crashed around 9 p.m. Friday. The retrieval of the plane is scheduled to begin early Monday morning.

Multiple media reports say Coast Guard personnel responded to the scene Saturday night after the aircraft crashed in the vicinity of the Seabrook Bridge near New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

One woman who was rescued after the plane crash is undergoing medical care.

“More information on the two missing passengers should become forthcoming with tomorrow’s recovery effort.”
