Gregory Lynthacum said the auto the girls were riding in appeared to “get caught” as the wheel lifted upward, CNN affiliate WJHL-TV reported. After the inspection, regardless of the findings, the Ferris Wheel will be removed.
All three girls are minors, the oldest a 16-year-old, WJHL reported.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the three individuals and their families”, he said.
Asked about reports that the seat was rocking before it flipped, Davis said police have not been able to confirm that but they are still interviewing people.
“As a result of the accident, and for the safety of all fair goers, all rides operated by Family Attraction Amusement Company at the Greene County Fair were closed last night and will remain closed until third party inspections are completed”, Holt said.
Three people who fell 30 to 45 feet from a Ferris wheel in Tennessee were responsive and answering questions Monday night, police said. “We are continuing to monitor her progress, but she does unfortunately remain in critical condition at this time”.
The 3 children – whose names have not been released – were transported to the nearby Johnson City Medical Center.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the Greene County Fair at 6:17 pm.
Family Attractions Amusement Company is based out of Valdosta, Georgia. He said the ride eventually stopped after people on the ground began screaming at the ride operators.
“It was like watching water pouring from a glass”, Lynthacum told the station.
Lynthacum said the girls’ injuries appeared to be very serious. The 10-year-old is in stable condition with a broken arm. A helicopter touched down on the fairgrounds and two of the girls were flown to the hospital. The Fair is open through Saturday.
The incident comes a day after the son of a Kansas state lawmaker was killed on what is considered the world’s tallest waterslide at Schlitterbahn water park in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Green County Fair announced on its Facebook page that all rides will be shut down “until further notice”. An investigation into his death is ongoing.
