There is no difference between the PKK and DAESH terrorist groups and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday.
Eastern Turkey was rocked by two deadly bombings against police as Kurdish guerrillas launched a new campaign of attacks targeting areas that are not predominantly Kurdish.
Officials blamed the PKK, with one accusing the rebels of collaborating with supporters of USA -based preacher Fethullah Gulen, accused by Ankara of orchestrating the July 15 coup bid.
Citing classified documents, Spiegel said Turkey’s MIT intelligence agency requested the BND search 40 people and extradite another three for links to the Gulen movement, which runs a global network of schools, charities and businesses. They are accused of alleged “membership in a terror organization” and “providing financial support to a terror organization”.
Authorities on Thursday ordered the detention of almost 200 people, including leading businessmen, and seized their assets in an operation targeting a Gulen-linked business association.
Turkish authorities detained 29 inspectors on Friday from the BDDK banking watchdog for “irregular inspections”, broadcaster NTV and other media reported, in what appeared to be the latest round-up related to the failed July 15 coup. He denies any involvement.
They flew to the northeastern Greek city of Alexandroupolis next morning and have applied for asylum in Greece, saying they fear they would not face a fair trial if returned to Turkey and that their lives would be endangered. Kurdish rebels detonated a vehicle bomb at the police station killing two police officers and a young child, officials said.
The first two were auto bombings that hit police stations in eastern Turkey, followed by a roadside blast that targeted a military vehicle carrying soldiers in the southeast of the country.
At least three police officers were killed and 217 wounded, 85 of them police officers in the attack.
Deputy Mayor Mahmut Varol told Haber Turk television by telephone Thursday that the explosion occurred on the grounds of the Elazig police headquarters.
At least four soldiers were killed and seven wounded in that attack, the AP says.
Two vehicle bombings occurred in Turkey on Wednesday night.
At least three police officers were killed, according to local Governor Murat Zorluoglu.
More that 7,000 PKK militants have been killed or neutralized in Turkey and Iraq.
Officials say two auto bombings targeted police stations in Turkey, killing three people and wounding dozens.
Turkey’s Defense Minister Fikri Isik blamed the PKK for the attacks. And on Wednesday night, two more policemen and a civilian were killed and dozens wounded in a similar attack in the city of Van, not far from the border with Iran.
Turkey’s southeast has been scorched by violence since the collapse of a 2-1/2-year ceasefire with the PKK in July last year.
