10 memorable quotes at Emmys 2016 that got etched
Game of Thrones has made TV history by becoming the most decorated fictional show at the Emmy Awards since the prestigious event began in 1949. The HBO hit show, based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novel series, competed with “The Americans“, “Better Call Saul“, “Downton Abbey“, “Homeland“, “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot“.

The Emmy broadcast rotates each September among the four biggest broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox – and is created to drum up excitement for the beginning of the fall season. “This is other-izing with a capital O. He needs to be called out every chance we get for being one of most unsafe monsters to ever approach our lifetimes”, Soloway said.
True crime was also a big victor. The FX anthology show, which revisited the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, almost swept its nominated categories with awards for best limited series, outstanding writing and acting (for Sterling K. Brown, Sarah Paulson and Courtney B. Vance).
Courtney B. Vance did some politicking after accepting an Emmy for his role in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”.
United States comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who emceed the ceremony, took time out from his opening remarks to berate Mark Burnett, who produced The Apprentice, the reality show that made Trump a household name in the US. “I haven’t always been a very good man, but I play one hell of a woman”, he said during his acceptance speech.
“Emmys 2016: Tatiana Maslany, Rami Malek, “Game of Thrones” and Jimmy Kimmel lead a gala that reflects TV’s bold new age”, Los Angeles Times web site, September 19, 2016http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-st-emmys-live-updates-peanut-butter-sandwiches-for-everyone-1474248264-htmlstory.html, last accessed September 20, 2016.
“If [Trump] gets elected and he builds that wall, the first person we’re throwing over it is Mark Burnett”.
“I think that Veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics. Our show started out as a political satire, but it now feels like a sobering documentary”, she said, drawing laughs from the crowd before concluding on a serious note about the death of her father on Friday.
The HBO series led the field this year with 11 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series for the second straight year.
Sunday’s Emmys were notable for having a record 21 nominees of color, in contrast to this year’s all-white Oscars acting lineup. This year for this first time ever, you must be present to win.
The People v. O.J. Simpson also had a stellar night.
“Please tell me you’re seeing this, too”, said Emmy victor Rami Malek, who plays a computer hacker on USA’s “Mr. Robot”.
As a matter of fact, Kimmel joked after she won yet another trophy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Kimmel joked that he was going to put it in the lost and found.
Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s “Orphan Black” won the best actress in drama award, beating favorites Claire Danes and last year’s victor Viola Davis.
The opening sketch followed the comedian as he attempted to get a ride to the Emmy’s from various people, including late night’s James Corden and the cast of ABC’s “Modern Family“.
