10 militants killed, soldier injured in two gunfights in Kashmir (Fourth Lead)

India’s Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under pressure to act against Pakistan after Sunday’s attack on an army base in India-administered Kashmir killed 18 soldiers.

The army said it was a “desperate attempt” by Pakistan to create “disturbance and foment unrest” in India.

Standing firm on its decision, India also called upon the Council at the 33rd Session of the UNHRC to urge Pakistan to terminate all the cross-border infiltration and stop acting as an epicentre of terrorism.

The operation was on with at least seven militants still engaged in heavy exchange of fire with Indian soldiers.

After the Uri attack, the terrorists had again made an audacious attempt to cross the Line of Control in Uri and Nowgam sectors with Pakistani troops violating ceasefire and firing at Indian positions to give cover to the terrorists.

The terror attack has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan has denied the allegations.

Maintaining a disapproving attitude towards Pakistan ever since independence in 1947, Indian media, this time, as well has resorted to propaganda tactics an example of which was a baseless news story aired by one of the channels that suggested a halt to Pakistan-Russia military exercises.

India regularly accuses its arch-rival of arming and sending rebels across the heavily militarised border that divides Kashmir between the two countries, to launch attacks on its forces. The army has blamed the raid-the worst on troops for over a decade in the region-on Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The same group was implicated in an audacious assault on an Indian air force base in Pathankot in the northern state of Punjab in January.

India sent a strong message to Pakistan on Monday at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) asking it to dismantle the terrorist organisations breeding on its turf instead of “internationalising” the Kashmir issue.

Taking into consideration the natural and geographical conditions of the Valley, it is not hard to ascertain the attacks with the help of Pakistan Army.

The meeting attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, however, heard from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Army chief General Dalbir Singh on possible long-term options to retaliate against jihadist logistics and the Pakistani military infrastructure.
