100-Game Atari Collection Adds Online Multiplayer to Classic Games

It may seem hard to imagine now, but I bet a load of our best games on PC were inspired by Atari classics. The game is only slated to release on PC.

Atari Vault is not just about making old games run on new operating systems.

Developed by Code Mystics, Atari Vault is set to include the likes of classics such as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Warlords, Tempest, and more.

To this end, Atari reckon Steam Controller support “provides significantly improved precision control”.

Games will feature a modern interface and as a Steam offering, they’ll also be compatible with Valve‘s own Steam Controller. If that actually winds up working well in execution, maybe we’ll see Sega release the arcade-only Sonic the Hedgehog trackball game, or a Steam release of Marble Madness. Let us know in the comments. Each title will also come with its original soundtrack from the 70s and 80s. Those looking for a nostalgia-laden title could do a lot worse.

Atari will demo these games at the PAX South 2016 expo this month in San Antonio, Texas. It is unclear whether the Atari Vault will feature remakes, arcade games or what, however, Atari does tease that players on Steam Leaderboards can “compete for arcade supremacy”.
