The night features former President Bill Clinton, as well as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. “I understand that many people here in this convention hall and around the country are disappointed about the final results of the nominating process”, he said.

The camera then panned to a glassy-eyed Sanders and his wife Jane, who was also visibly moved.

The Sanders supporter pledged her allegiance to Hillary Clinton in the interest of party unity and a historic moment for American women.

Jerry Emmett was born before women gained the right to vote in America, so it’s fitting she announced that the Arizona delegation was casting 51 of its 85 votes for Hillary Clinton for president.

“There is obviously more than four days’ work necessary to heal all the wounds, and everybody accepts that”, said Clinton delegate Josep Carlson, 64, of MA.

“To sit there for eight hours and hear Hillary, Hillary, Hillary; it’s just like, why are we here?” she said.

Tuesday’s convention events drew sharp contrast with Trump, with several speakers discussing Clinton’s life-long fights to make a difference.

Following Sanders’ call to nominate Clinton during the roll call, his supporters flooded the streets surrounding the Wells Fargo Arena and stormed the media tent, causing it to go on lockdown at one point.

“So it is with a full heart that I’m here today to nominate Hillary Clinton to be the first woman president”, Ms Mikulski said.

“Tonight we will make history, about 100 years in the making”, said Karen Finney, a senior adviser for Clinton’s campaign.

“By these measures, any objective observer will conclude that – based on her ideas and her leadership – Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States”, he told the crowd to overwhelming applause, with only a smattering of dispute. “Hillary opened my eyes to a whole new world of public service by private citizens”, he said, addressing a convention hall packed to the rafters with delegates listening raptly.

The political drama with Sanders and controversy over Democratic National Committee emails that show staffers has done little to dampen the excitement among Clinton allies.

But many of Sanders’ supporters seem discontent with the Democratic party’s business-as-usual politics and instead continue to call for the more widespread economic and political reforms championed during the his campaign.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was investigating the “cyber intrusion”, which the Clinton campaign blamed on Russian hackers it said are bent on helping Trump.

Polls show many Americans distrust Hillary Clinton, who critics accuse of bending the rules and lacking transparency in her political dealings. While her aides believe his past transgressions are old news to voters, they have flared up anew at times during the campaign, with Trump often leading the charge.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine joins the ticket as Clinton’s vice presidential nominee.

Bill Clinton had the spotlight Tuesday night.

This was the beginning, he said, of a lifetime relationship that endured “through good times and bad, joy and heartbreak”. President Clinton complicated the email controversy last month when he met privately with Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the midst of the FBI investigation.
