While shoppers bought a record 74.8 million iPhones in the final three months of 2015, Apple has signaled demand in the current three-month period will fall short of the 61 million iPhones sold in the January-March quarter a year ago.
In its latest product launch event, Apple slightly underwhelmed with the launch of a smaller-screen new “iPhone SE”, a cheaper price for the Apple Watch wearable device and a new smaller “iPad Pro” tablet.
This is the first time an iPad is being offered with a 256GB storage option, apart from 32GB and 12GB options, both in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + LTE variants.
The company also launched a new line of straps for the Apple Watch. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has the same display as that used on the 12.9-inch edition.
Even with new features, analysts say the 4-inch iPhone should sell at a lower price than the larger models, which list at $549 or more.
“We’re at a point, in a mature market, where it’s about having niche products that satisfy different needs”, said veteran tech industry watcher Bob O’Donnell of Technalysis Research.
After CEO Tim Cook addressed Apple’s controversial stand against the Federal Bureau of Investigation and also the company’s environmental impact, he moved on to the exciting news: the new iPhone.
According to Apple, past year 30 million people have bought smaller and lighter phones, So they’re taking steps to keep the 4-inch phone in their line-up, as expected.
You can’t get the iPhone SE, Apple’s new 4-inch iPhone, quite yet, but the release date is nearly here.
It is priced from NZ$749 for the 16GB model, and a 64GB version is NZ$949.
“People simply love smaller phones”, Apple VP Greg Joswiak said at the SE unveiling on Monday. The extra power also enables the SE to film in 4K.
Apple unveiled a small new iPhone, a new iPad tablet for business use and price cuts for its Apple Watch at a product event Monday.
“We’ve been humbled by the support we’ve had from across the country”.
