13-year-old boy recovering after shark bite on Florida beach

A stretch of Newport Beach will remain closed to swimmers today as officials attempt to determine what left a woman with bloody bites on her body while in the water off Corona del March.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed as being in stable condition.

His injuries are serious, but according to Key, they are not life threatening.

“We can and should expect the number of attacks to be higher each year”, he said.

Banks pointed out that there haven’t been many shark attacks at Neptune Beach over the years.

A hospital official has confirmed that a shark attacked a woman who received large bite marks while swimming in Southern California.

The closure of the area waters Sunday evening meant beach-goers had to go elsewhere for Monday’s Memorial Day holiday, or else remain on the sand without entering the possibly unsafe water.

A shark sighting in October of 2015 shut down a stretch of the beach near Newport Pier. Still closed on Monday was Corona del Mar State Beach, located in Newport Beach, where the incident occurred, as well as some adjacent coastline.
