13-year-old girl sought in St. Louis-area shooting
A 13-year-old from Missouri surrendered to police Wednesday morning after an elderly couple in their 70s were shot and critically wounded at a beauty supply store following a suspected shoplifting.

Employees said the 13-year old suspect had been in the store earlier in that day with another juvenile.
One girl was taken into custody on a previous juvenile warrant and the other was released with a warning with the couple’s approval, according to Detective Shawn Applegate. The 70-year-olds do not speak much English, and the store has been owned by the same family for more than a decade.

The girls returned later that day, though, and the couple called police, who found the girls in an adjacent parking lot. Police say the shoplifting wasn’t reported. You have now viewed your allowance of free articles.
The teen turned herself into authorities on Wednesday after cops had deemed her armed and risky.
The suspect’s name is not being released due because she’s a juvenile.
Police believe that the girl who was released on a warning later returned to the store and shot the couple.
Several witnesses told police that the girl had been seen in the area several times on Tuesday.

“The shop stewards that were there were kind enough to not press charges, saying the crime was in their eyes, petty giving that person a second chance essentially”, said Chief Jeremy Ihler told KMOV.
