They were found dead in the parking lot at a Quality Inn, where the woman in charge of them was keeping them in the back of a truck.

“Evidence gathered in the investigation confirms that the dogs’ deaths appear to be a tragic accident and that no crime was committed under the Indiana Criminal Code”, prosecutor’s said. A handler was staying there while the dogs participated in a show.
After two hours napping inside the hotel, the truck owner then went outside and discovered the deceased dogs, officials say.
Officers were called to the hotel, and they determined that a breaker had tripped, causing the air conditioning to shut off. “I’ve cried, just at the loss of life”.
They were Golden Retrievers, but one was a Brittany Spaniel.
The dogs were kept inside the truck which was equipped with air conditioning powered by an extension cord that was plugged into an outlet outside the hotel. “It was hard, no question”.
“The young lady that had this incident happen – if you have kids, that’s how she felt about her dogs”.
Some of the dogs belonged to the woman caring for the dogs, Cortney Corral of Lakesyde Kennels; at least eight of them belonged to other people who entrusted her to care for them during the show.
Investigators in St. Joseph County are looking into the deaths of 14 dogs in South Bend for an American Kennel Club dog show, according to the South Bend Tribune.
“We are continuing our investigation into this incident but nevertheless this is a tragic and devastating situation for all those involved”, according to a statement by The Humane Society of St. Joseph in Indiana.
Augustin Aviles says he’s boarded his dogs at the kennel.
