14 students, 2 drivers hurt in car, bus crash

She was taken to a Tomah hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say she’s expected to survive. The driver and more than a dozen passengers were treated for minor injuries. Another 19 students were also checked out.

Three separate callers reported a Badger school bus operating erratically in Verona shortly after 7 a.m., according to a news release from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies have arrested a Wisconsin school bus driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while he had a child on board.

A Verona man driving a school bus Wednesday morning was arrested after authorities said he was observed driving all over the road at high speed with a 10-year-old boy on the bus. The auto went under the bus and the driver had to be removed using the Jaws of Life.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

Deputies were able to initiate contact with the driver of the school bus on Shady Oak Lane just north of CTH PD in the Township of Verona.

“We appreciate the rapid response by all first responders involved in the accident and the work of the staff at Tomah Memorial Hospital”, he said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
