No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Breed Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
The boy’s name was not released, but he was identified as a Hispanic 14-year-old from the Los Angeles Area, said Mario Sainz with the coroner’s office.
An ambulance was summoned, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, Aguilar said.
A handgun was recovered, but it was not immediately clear if he fired at officers, she said.
As the Times points out, this would be the twelfth fatal shooting out of 15 total shootings by on-duty LAPD officers so far this year.
The officers involved in the pursuit and shooting were equipped with body cameras, but it is unclear Wednesday morning whether investigators had reviewed any footage from the cameras.
