Senior officials said three policemen were missing following the violence and almost 100 security personnel were injured in the street clashes which have crippled the Kashmir Valley and halted the Amarnath Yatra.
“Attacking hospitals and ambulances is a crime under the global humanitarian law and Indian armed forces have been repeatedly accused of this crime in Kashmir”, said the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, a rights group, in a statement.
He said a number of police establishments and camps were also attacked during the day, resulting in damage to the property and injuries to scores of Police and CRPF personnel.
The protesters who died in clashes on Saturday following the killing of Wani include Adil Bashir, Danish Ayub, Abdul Hamid Moochi, Jahangir Ganai, Aijaz Ahmad Thokru, Ashraf Dar, Showkat Ahmad, Haseeb Ahmad and Saqib Mir, all from Anantnag district, Khurshid Ahmad from Kulgam, and Azad Hussain from Shopian.
Arsonists torched three police posts when thousands of people participated in Wani’s funeral in his hometown, Tral, onSaturday. Yesterday, the restrictions were imposed only in some parts of Srinagar, Pulwama and Anantnag districts.
Jamaat e Islami (JI) Senator Sirajul Haq also condemned the killing of Burhan Wani while talking to media after leading a funeral in absentia for the Kashmiri commander and Abdus Sattar Edhi at Mansoora on Saturday.
Telephone services remained disconnected across southern-held Kashmir while cellular internet was also suspended across the occupied valley.
He put the death count at eight but two other officers, who asked not to named as they were not authorised to talk to the press, said three more people had died from their injuries.
Officials said several exams have been postponed in view of the tense situation. Train services in Kashmir too have been suspended till further orders. Several injured are said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, separatists including Syed Ali Geelani, moderate Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Asiya Andrabi have called for a valley-wide shutdown to protest Wani’s killing.
Groups of protesters were up in arms against security forces following the news of Wani’s death on Friday evening.
Last year, the army had gunned down his elder brother, Khalid Muzuffar, in the forests of Tral where he had gone to meet Wani who had left home in 2010.
“(Wani) was a Hizbul Mujahideen commander. Shops, businesses and government offices were shut following the security lockdown and a general strike called by anti-India separatists.

The BBC’s South Asia correspondent, Justin Rowlatt, says this is the worst violence in the region for some years and the fear is that if it is not brought under control soon, many more people could be killed and injured. “The focus is to prevent the loss of young lives”, police intelligence chief Shiv M. Sahai said as quoted by NDTV broadcaster.
