Mike Pence’s acceptance speech as Trump’s running mate was overshadowed as a result, one more missed opportunity at a convention with a daily drip of them.

Police declined to identify the arrestees, because they had not yet been booked and officially charged, but a member of the group said that Johnson was among those arrested. Officers used bicycles to wall-off intersections and for the first time during the convention ordered demonstrators to disperse under the threat of arrest.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams was one of several officers checking delegates’ credentials before letting them through a barrier created by bicycle officers. His stickers have been sent to a lab for testing. None of the protesters were charged over burning the flag.

CLEVELAND (AP) – The four-day Republican convention drew to a close Thursday night with a total of only two dozen protest-related arrests, a relief to city officials and police who had braced for mass disruptions and violence during this summer of bloodshed.

Also Tuesday, health officials said 11 members of the planning team for the California delegation to the Republican convention were recovering from a bout of norovirus, or what’s commonly known as stomach flu.

A protester “lit flag on fire, then lit himself on fire, catching others on fire”.

“Our observers have been at some protests where there’s been more police than protesters”, Ferrero said.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Cleveland’s safe and successful turn as host of the Republican National Convention has helped establish it as an ideal location for large events but also a city that people will consider when deciding where to live and do business, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said Friday.

Kasich has refused to endorse Trump and the governor has refused to go to the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland where the convention was taking place, although he has made public appearances in the area.

A group called the Revolution Club had warned of trying to burn the flag to protest against U.S. policies, especially military intervention overseas, said a Reuters report.

Police said 17 protesters were arrested on Wednesday.

Vincent said he was disappointed that Trump failed to pledge not to use executive powers to get around Congress, as President Barack Obama has on immigration and gun rights issues – moves that have outraged conservatives.

True enough. But somehow the delegate failed to notice that with its fraudulent claims, comprehensive incompetence, contempt for expertise and, most of all, its slapdash candidate, the entire Trump campaign is basically flipping off Republican voters on an even bigger scale. Police said two officers were assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

These have included people from the Westboro Baptist Church, the women’s social justice organization Code Pink, the Black Lives Matter movement and a march down East 4th by the Revolutionary Communist Party.

The skirmish erupted just outside an entrance to the arena and near a row of popular restaurants where a couple of cable news networks had set up their operations for the convention. The atmosphere outside the arena descended into chaos, as protesters from opposite sides of the spectrum clashed with each other.
