Eleven others sustained “various degrees of injuries”, he added. The area has been targeted by similar attacks twice in the last month, including on September 20 when at least 117 were killed.
On October 1, at least 10 people were killed and 39 injured when four suicide bombers blew themselves up in a wave of attacks in Ajilari Cross, which is near Maiduguri airport and a military base.
The September 20 attack hit a mosque and killed football fans watching a televised match as well as bystanders.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the security forces to step up the fight against Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency.
The explosions are the worst attacks on the city, capital of Borno state, since 54 people were killed and 90 injured in bombings three weeks ago.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested two suspects in connection with the October the 2nd bombing in Nyanya and Kuje in the country’s capital, Abuja.
Also Tuesday, soldiers attacked militants believed responsible for an attack last week on a military camp in Geidam town, also in Borno state, Usman said.
He said troops on patrol around Monguno arrested Abacha Kumjo, a suspected Boko Haram fuel and logistics supplier.
“They were ambushed while returning from an attack on Gajiram near Ngollom village”, said the spokesman.
