The men have been trapped since 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries have been reported.
The Lansing Fire Department, working with Cargill Salt, Inc. and assisted by other agencies, is coordinating a rescue situation at the mine, located on Portland Point Road.
A crane has been brought in to assist with extricating the miners, according to the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response. The mine employees are stuck “775 feet down” in an elevator shaft, according to a CBS affiliate who spoke with the Ithaca Fire Department. Crews have provided heat packs and blankets to the miners to keep them warm during the rescue operation.

Klein said that once the crane arrives, it will lower down a basket to carry out miners 2-3 at a time.
