Buhari himself has said he was confident the deadline would be met – but only on Boko Haram’s “conventional” assaults.

It is the latest attack since the militants started targeting villagers and Niger’s soldiers in February when they killed at least 70 people. Mohammed Mansur Dan Ali (retd.), has re-assured the nation that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents would soon be brought to an end.

Three northeastern Nigerian states, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, remain under a state of emergency because of Boko Haram’s attacks.

Mr Mohammed Chambas, UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa, said on Thursday that the UN had commenced assessment of the humanitarian situation of internally displaced persons in North-Eastern Nigeria.

According to the Central African leaders in regional bloc CEEAC said on Wednesday, 50 billion CFA Francs had been raised by it in order to help Nigeria’s neighbors fight the Islamist militant group. “His accomplice was initially arrested and confessed they were sent by Boko Haram”, the organiser said.

Several people have been reported dead, after a suicide bomber attacked a Shia Muslim procession, in Kano state.

Turi, who was leading the procession when the attack happened, said the incident was no surprise as similar attacks happen all over Nigeria nearly on a daily basis. Recently, the Nigerian Air Force and ground troops have reported destroying numerous Boko Haram camps and freeing more than 1,000 kidnap victims. Still, terrorism is spreading to other countries, the report found, with the number of countries suffering more than 500 deaths increasing from five to 11.
