Turkish media reports that the boat is believed to have been making its way to the Greek island of Kalymnos.

“Who are these refugees?”.

Less than 24 hours earlier, on Friday morning, eight Iraqi refugees, including five children, drowned after a boat sank off near Bodrum, Anadolu reported.

Refugees and migrants arrive on a vessel of Frontex, European Border Protection Agency, after their rescue near the Greek island of Lesbos on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015. “It must go down faster now, get closer to zero”.

Another 14 people were rescued by Turkey’s coast guard. It was carrying migrants from Iraq, Pakistan, and Syria.

But many European Union leaders have stressed that any such move depends on seeing evidence that Turkey is working to prevent people smugglers putting people to sea to reach Europe.

Over the past year, thousands have made short but perilous journeys across the Aegean in a bid to reach northern and western Europe.

Refugee and migrant arrivals by sea and land into Europe this year are expected to top the one million mark next week, according to the International Organisation for Migration. “I can’t imagine what state of desperation could make getting on this overcrowded, rickety boat seem like a good idea”, Sarandon said.

“We had a constructive discussion today also with the prime minister of Turkey and we have to work harder in this direction”.

“Implementation is insufficient and has to be speeded up”, the leaders declared in the conclusions on migration at their last summit of the year in Brussels.
