1860s baseball card fetches $179000 at auction

AP The 1984 Summer Olympics Torch that Bruce Jenner carried through Lake Tahoe, Nev., is the first significant piece of Jenner memorabilia to go to auction since the victor of the 1976 Olympic Decathlon Gold Medal became Caitlyn Jenner.

Caitlyn Jenner, who has become arguably the world’s most famous person after coming out earlier this year, first rose to fame by winning the gold medal in decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. It had a presale estimate of $50,000. There are also Chicago-related items, such as a pair of Michael Jordan game-worn and signed Chicago Bulls sneakers, estimated at $20,000. It is being sold by Bob Lorsch, who recruited Jenner to complete the last 1,000-meter stretch of the torch relay.

“This torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive”, Ivy said.

Caesars Palace asked Jenner to be the athlete to cross from Nevada into California, reported by Heritage Sports Auctions Branch Manager Chris Ivy. It’s being sold by a Massachusetts woman whose great-great-uncle is among the players pictured on the card. An undated newspaper clipping pasted to the back lists the players’ names.
