19-0: The Warriors ‘hustle’ the Jazz

And the Jazz had a golden opportunity to virtually end the Warriors’ remarkable start to the season when Hood unleashed from beyond the arc with five seconds left on the clock, but his shot missed.

Barnes said he’s good with the plan to be cautious about getting back. They now have the record for the best start in the National Basketball Association.

The Warriors have wins against Chicago – as well as against the Clippers and Grizzlies – playing both of those teams twice thus far. The next two matchups are against teams that did not make the playoffs past year: They play the Jazz on Monday, and then Curry’s hometown team the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. But Golden State is not a team that is built around a couple of stars. The slow-paced Jazz controlled tempo and generally played the style they prefer, trailing by double digits for all of 14 seconds on the night. “You can’t pretend it’s just any other game, but at the same time, if you treat it in too unique of a way, I think it does you a disservice”. “When he makes high-percentage decisions, he can shoot it, he can pass it, he can handle, he can finish”, Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said. They go to a three-wing, two-big lineup in order to shrink the areas on the floor.

Utah allows 94.8 points at home this season.

“Obviously, I like to play”, Curry said.

Drummond said: “They made it tough for us”. We wanted to push the tempo. “Not only did he not get rebounds, his guys dominated us on the glass”. “Try to speed them up on the offensive end but I wouldn’t call it a struggle”. He had a game that he scored 53 points earlier this season and four games that he scored 40 or more.

The current record for highest scoring average for a player playing fewer than 35 minutes per game over a full season is 28.1 ppg.

Amazingly, only the Brooklyn Nets have had a similar situation this season, and they’d eventually go on to lose in overtime in Oakland. He leads the league in points per game (31.9), is grabbing 5.1 rebounds per game, and is dishing out 6.1 assists a game to top it off. But he hasn’t been alone. “Could’ve been a lot better”.

Although the Jazz are a decent three-point shooting club, we’re probably living in a fantasy land if we think Utah can beat Golden State in a three-point shoot-out. So numerous games have been laughers that Steph Curry has sat the entire fourth quarter several times this season. “And we played well to back it up”. “I don’t mind giving it up”. If you didn’t know better, it would have been easy to confuse Ian Clark for Curry in the first half.

It worked. Last season’s MVP took this shot, so coldly described as a “Curry 3 PT 26′ Step Back Jump Shot” in the box score.

That’s how good the Warriors are at the moment. A loss that you could have won. Still, this team may have just found itself on Monday night, even in defeat. It’s something the Warriors don’t take for granted. “Just because we are 19-0 doesn’t mean we can just show up and blow teams out and guarantee a win, we actually have to do something about it”. The Jazz provided a sort of blueprint for beating them, but it still wasn’t enough to get the job done. Maybe, eventually, that won’t be so, but for now, it’s 19-0 – and counting.
