Nykea Aldridge’s famous relative, who grew up in Chicago’s south suburbs, tweeted to his almost 6 million followers about her death, saying Friday it was an “act of senseless gun violence” and posting Saturday morning that Chicago needs “more help& more hands on deck”. The investigation revealed that Aldridge was not the intended target of the shooting but suffered the fatal wounds during an exchange of gunfire between two men. The baby was not injured.

As previously reported, Aldridge was pushing her infant child in a stroller Friday afternoon in Chicago, when she was fatally shot in both her arm and head.
There is video of the incident, Dennihan said, but no weapon was recovered and police don’t know where the weapon is.
Chicago police say two brothers have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the cousin of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade.
One of the working theories regarding the shooting death of Wade’s cousin is that the bullet which hit Aldridge in the head and killed her may have been fired during a robbery attempt, which involved a driver from the popular ride-sharing app, Uber. “I want all of you to think about what I just said and ask what that tells you”. “She wasn’t aware her short life would stand as an example of what is a clear failure of the criminal justice system here in Chicago”, said Eddie Johnson, the police superintendent.
Wade, who was signed by the Chicago Bulls in the offseason, has only commented publicly about the tragedy on Twitter, posting on Saturday: “RIP Nykea Aldridge”. “It’s much harder to see the cases of people who we’ve locked up for too long”.
“My cousin was killed today in Chicago”.
Jones said Aldridge and her family had recently moved to the neighborhood, and she was on her way back from registering her children for school when she was shot.
As the news station notes, Aldridge’s death is not the first time Wade’s Chicago family has grappled with gun violence. Wade was not in Chicago on Friday, but joined an ESPN roundtable on Thursday about violence in Chicago.
Dwyane Wade’s mother, Jolinda Wade, a senior pastor of New Creation Binding and Loosing Ministry in Chicago, spoke on the importance of helping young men, such as the offenders, to transform their minds and find a better direction with their lives.
Wade’s nephew Darin Johnson was one of six people shot by two gunmen in a South Side convenience store in 2012. “The negotiations with the USA have effectively failed because we must not capitulate to the American demands as Europeans”, Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in Berlin.

Her death refocused attention on Chicago’s epidemic of deadly gun violence and even became an issue in the presidential campaign when GOP nominee Donald Trump referenced it on Twitter.
