The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1W6J0qG ) reports a Cook County judge on Friday called the alleged actions of Diego Uribe and 19-year-old Jafeth Ramos “pure evil”. Both Uribe and Ramos are charged with six counts of first-degree murder. Police say DNA evidence and cellphone records link Uribe to the crime.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was expected to outline the development in the case at a news conference Thursday evening.

Officers found the three slain generations of the Martinez family inside their home in the 5700 block of South California Avenue on February 4 after friends, relatives and a work supervisor became concerned at the family’s absence. All of the other victims were also stabbed to death except for Maria Herminia Martinez, who died from gunshots to the head.

No attorneys were listed for Uribe Cruz and Ramos. Family matriarch Rossaura Martinez, 58, then rushed upstairs and attempted to punch Cruz, but he pushed her down the stairs.

“He had control”, she said. Martinez’ 13-year old son, Leonardo Cruz, suffered a dozen knife wounds. Her brother, Noe Martinez Jr., 38, was beaten in his head. Cruz is the nephew of Armando Cruz, Maria’s ex-husband who was deported to Mexico.

Police found the bodies after a workmate of Noe Martinez Jr’s phoned to ask them to check on his wellbeing because he had not gone to work for two days.

None of the victims had been bound or restrained, which led authorities to think that the family knew their attackers, explained the chief of detectives, Eugene Roy. It took crews almost 16 hours to process the scene, Roy said. “Ms. Ramos was present in the home at the time of the murders and was an accomplice to this unspeakable act”, said Supt.

Uribe was a cousin of one of the family members. That’s when Uribe Cruz allegedly stabbed the boy multiple times.

The pair gave recorded confessions detailing the killings, prosecutors said. The pair bought diapers and milk for their child, and prosecutors say they were hoping to buy a vehicle with their loot. Before killing the victims, they visited with them, authorities said. Police did not elaborate on Ramos’ role in the murders.
