A suspect in the shooting that killed two people at a Titusville hospital early Sunday morning has been charged.
According to its Facebook Page, the Parrish Medical Center “is a nationally recognized industry leader having earned a number of prestigious recognitions, including Modern Healthcare Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare and Spirit of Excellence Awards, America’s #1 Healing Hospital for three consecutive years, HealthGrades® Outstanding Patient Experience Award™, Hospital of Choice Award, National Spirit of Women Premier Hospital, and a disease-specific certification gold seal from the Joint Commission in stroke”.
The hospital, at 951 N. Washington Ave., is just west of Indian River.
Owens was booked into Brevard County Jail.
The shooting “appears to be extremely random”, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said.
TITUSVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) – A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting at a hospital in Titusville.
Two unarmed security guards tackled down Owens, then “held him down for arriving officers” said Commander Todd Hutchinson. “He does have a, a criminal history but nothing that would make you think it would get to this degree”, Chief Lau said.
“I want to commend our staff and the immediate and fast response they implemented”, said Natalie Sellers, Parrish Medical Center vice president of communications, community and corporate services.
Local media says the shootings happened about 2 a.m. Sunday at the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, which is near the Kennedy Space Center. Baton Rogue, Louisiana was also targeted by a mass shooter; in that incident it appears as though the motivation may have been connected to the recent anti-police violence protests and sentiment rocking the U.S. The Baton Rogue shooter killed three police officers and wounded three more.
She added, “We’re mourning the loss of one our care partners, and we’re certainly mourning the loss of one of our patients”.
