2 key stats that should thrill Giants, worry Tony Romo-less Cowboys

The Giants will begin their 92 National Football League season Sunday when they face their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, in AT&T Stadium. The organization are also not ruling out his return a couple of weeks earlier for the October 16 game for a road game at the Green Bay Packers.

Of course, being a divisional home game raises the stakes Sunday as it is already. “He had numerous opportunities once the Broncos parted ways with him and he felt the Cowboys were the best fit for a variety of reasons”. NY has a new head coach, so there’s bound to be some jitters even if he has been with the team the last couple of seasons.

But I truly believe the importance of this game goes beyond the standings, or the remaining schedule. The backup doesn’t have to win the game; just don’t lose the game. If he heals faster than they expect, they’re not restricted by a particular timeline – putting Romo on short-term IR would mean he’s out and not eligible to play until November 6. He’s only starting because of the injuries to Tony Romo and Kellen Moore.

We all know these stats. Prescott was supposed to sit and learn behind Tony Romo, but another Romo back injury has changed those plans. Dak Prescott impressed in the preseason, but an entirely new set of challenges await the rookie as Romo’s temporary fill-in.

But the players know all of this too.

Dallas coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that he has been “very impressed” by Prescott’s “professional approach”.

For starters, this team is healthy. You have to go back to 1969 to find the last time they did that.

Dez Bryant, Orlando Scandrick, and Tyrone Crawford not only bolster the team’s lineup when available but also strengthen the locker room.

THE LAST WORD: Tight end Jason Witten, going into his 14th season, was the creator of the “same old story” line from a few years ago when the Cowboys kept missing the playoffs with losses that dropped them to 8-8 on the final day of the season.

Watt missed all of training camp and the Texans’ four preseason games after surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back in July. The veteran is seen helping Dak Prescott.

Dallas added Sanchez to the 53-man roster on a one-year contract Sunday while waiving Jameill Showers with the likely intention of adding the second-year player to the practice squad if another team doesn’t claim him.
