A gunman opened fire in Tel Aviv Friday afternoon, killing two Israelis and wounding at least eight others.

Daniel Estrin told our Newscast unit that police are searching for the gunman. “All injured taken to Tel Aviv hospitals”, spokesman Micky Rosenfeld wrote on Twitter.
More than 15 rounds were fired in “a number of different directions” on a sidewalk outside the pub on Dizengoff Street – a road famous for its shops, restaurants and bars – Rosenfeld said. Israeli media are broadcasting footage of shattered windows and a pool of blood on the pavement.
Police have not yet identified a motive for the attack, but said the shooter is a 29-year-old Israeli Arab man from the north of the country, who is known to authorities. They condemned the attack and called on him to turn himself in. The man then calmly placed his small backpack on a shopping trolley, pulled out a semi-automatic rifle, walked out of the shop and opened fire indiscriminately into the bar. The man described the shooter as “traumatized” after a cousin was killed by police in 2006, and who had served time in Israeli prison after allegedly grabbing an officer’s gun.
Witness reported that the shooter appeared calm and methodical.
Palestinian attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians have happened almost every day for more than three months.
Avi, another eyewitness, said he heard about 10 shots. “We dropped to the floor and I remember the smile on his face”, she said. It’s a pub on Dizengoff Street.
Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom said in initial reports that paramedics arrived to the scene and treated nine victims.

The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement Friday evening following the attack, saying that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in constant contact with security branches and is being briefed by the Israeli Police and Shin Bet about the Tel Aviv shooting investigation. As of December 23, 2015, at least 21 Israelis have been slain, the majority in stabbings and shootings committed by Palestinians, the BBC reported.
