2 killed after their pickup hits vehicle, goes into Charles River

A preliminary investigation indicated that a 2010 Toyota Tacoma truck was traveling north on Nashua Street before running a red light at Leverett Circle and side-swiping a 2008 Acura MDX which was already traveling northbound in the circle. State Police said the vehicle was traveling on the O’Brien Highway when it hit another auto and crashed through a guardrail, plunging into the water.

Massachusetts State Police have recovered the bodies of two Rhode Islanders after their truck ended up in the Charles River.

The auto driver, a 35-year-old Milton woman, wasn’t injured.

He declined to provide further details.

Boston Fire, Cambridge Fire, Boston EMS and Massachusetts State Police all assisted in rescuing the victims.

Witnesses couldn’t believe what they were seeing when the truck went in.

“All I heard was a horn going off”, said witness Chris Monzert.

The pickup, which was submerged in water, landed on its passenger side. They were both pronounced dead at the hospital. Firefighters placed one victim on an inflatable raft.
