One was taken to Stroger Hospital, and the other was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Illinois State Troopers were conducting a traffic stop around 8:30 p.m.at 77th and Vincennes Ave in the city’s West Chatham neighborhood when they were flagged down by a cab driver, according to a release from ISP.

State police say two suspects in the cab were struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital where their condition has stabilized. Shots were fired when troopers encountered the armed suspect, and both people in the back were wounded, state police confirmed.

The troopers walked up to the cab to talk to the passengers and saw “what appeared to be a gun” in one of their pockets, state police said. A trooper fired into the auto, hitting the two men – one in the lower torso. State police said no troopers were injured. “I just know it was somebody in the back seat they were trying to pull through that window. Then I pulled over, right by that tree”, said witness Denise Sanders.
