Farook and Malik, who had a baby daughter, died in a gun battle with police following the shooting. He was referred to the psychiatric ward and placed on an involuntary hold.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the details were obtained during 11 days of interviews with Mr Marquez in which he is said to have admitted his role in plotting murder.
As news that Marquez was being questioned in connection with the attacks hit the media, a portrait of the young man began to emerge. They sat in the front row and watched quietly and declined to talk to reporters afterward.
She said she knew nothing of the FBI’s interest in her son, whom she described as having been a normal teenager.
Investigators also gained insight into the mental state of Marquez from a conversation thread from his Facebook account on 5 November. “I don’t even remember who he hung out with”.
“After their initial meeting, Farook introduced Marquez to Islam”, the document says, and, in 2007, Marquez converted to Islam.
“He was weak-minded”, said the employee, who asked not to be named, “maybe he got suckered into something”. In addition to the terrorism charge, Marquez faces a count of lying on gun purchase forms to hide that he was really buying them for Farook, and one of defrauding the immigration system by entering into a sham marriage with a Russian immigrant.

“Those attacks never happened”, Kim said.
