2 more withdrawals from Olympics on eve of British Open

A shark himself, Nagle held off Arnold Palmer for his British Open win – the only major victory of his career.

His game has never been better.

Spieth, whose first PGA Tour win was the 2013 John Deere Classic (he won it again previous year the week prior to the Open at St. Andrews), said he won’t be back to defend his title this summer, because the tournament is on opposite the Olympics.

The hole got its name when two-time Open champion Willie Park Jr., writing in “Golf Illustrated” sometime after the turn of the last century, described it as a “pitching surface skimmed down to the size of a postage stamp”.

But that’s not what brought the biggest smile. If you were to be World No. 1, do you think that might stress you out at all?

Jordan Spieth delivered the final blow Monday when he told the International Golf Federation he would not be going to Rio next month, leaving the sport without its four highest-ranked players who have captured six of the last eight majors.

“The next thing I remember I’m sitting on 17 green and I’ve had about seven pints”, he said. We’ve won two out of the last three years. Johnson was the first to post at 15-under 273 through 72 holes.

With a relatively gentle start, which more often than not is played downwind, Johnson could unleash the heavy artillery early on and make the most of a series of par-fours that are under 400 yards. But outside of that it is focusing on the major championships because I believe that’s where history is at.

“You’ve got to be on your game the whole day”.

Johnson is that rare breed of golfer who can manage to entertain without being all that revealing. I can’t wait. That’s where I want to be, playing with the best players in the world.

“There’s a lot of trouble out there and you’re going to have to play well”, said Leishman, who will hit off in the very first group on Thursday, hoping the strong winds pick up later. “He only plays if he can be my partner”.

One man who has recent experience of winning two majors in a row is Spieth, who had a stellar 2015 season winning the US Masters and the US Open.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Jason Day and Dustin Johnson are co-favorites, as each has 8/1 odds. Those are based on numbers.

But he also says that it’s easy to beat the current testing program.

Several betting agencies had the Northern Irishman and Speith on the second line of betting at $12, behind Day and Johnson on $10. He was asked if he was good with that or if he ever cared.

“I would like to apologize to the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open champion, Brittany Lang”, Murphy said in a USGA statement. I mean, I like my chances, but I go into every tournament liking my chances.

“But at the same time that’s not the reason that I got into golf”.

“There is no doubt, it is our signature hole”, says Royal Troon captain Martin Cheyne. “He is so dominant off the tee with his accuracy and his length, that he is playing par four and fives from positions that gives a distinct advantage over numerous other guys in the field”.

“When the ball just trickles in back into the bunkers, it doesn’t go into the middle”.

He followed up with a 66 in the final round only to lose a playoff for the title to American Zach Johnson. “I was very indecisive with it”. “I’m determined not to miss any more, for the foreseeable future anyway”.

“The golf is on in Tokyo in four years’ time”.

Woodhall Spa Golf Club’s Dave Coupland insists he is not at The Open to make up the numbers this week – and is targeting a top 20 finish.

“I could use HGH and get away with it, so I think blood testing is something that needs to happen in golf just to make sure that it is a clean sport going forward”, he said.

While his win was a surprise to most – he was 100-to-1 – it wasn’t to Johnson. Still, he keeps everything so simple – his golf included – that he still recognizes he has to play good golf over 72 holes to have a chance.

Rose intends to walk in the opening ceremony, stay a few days in the Olympic Village and catch some other events before he hits the course. I always expect to come out and perform and to contend.
