2 officers shot, injured while serving warrants in Indiana

A second deputy was also shot, but is in stable condition.

Indiana State Police said it happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Russiaville.

The shooting began when Sgt. Jordan Buckley and Deputy Carl Koontz of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, along with officers from the Kokomo Police Department, knocked on the door of a Russiaville home to serve a search warrant, the Indiana State Police said.

The Indiana State Police are leading the investigation on the scene and are providing support to the local law enforcement community in Howard County. However, Koontz is said to be in very critical condition. Buckley, a nine-year veteran, was in stable condition.

At 1:20 PM on Sunday, a motorcade took the body of Deputy Koontz from Methodist Hospital to the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

The officers were shot at when they went inside.

A Howard County, Indiana deputy has died from injuries he suffered from gunfire during an incident overnight in Russiaville, Ind.

The officers injured have been identified as Sgt. Jordan Buckley and Deputy Carl Koontz. He said the deputies had learned that the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant from Clinton County was hiding in the home.

After removing neighboring residents from their homes and trying to contact the suspected shooter for two hours, SWAT officers found a person dead inside the mobile home, Rogers said.
