A shooting at a Chandler, Arizona Walmart left one person dead and two police officers injured.

At this time police returned fire striking the suspect who is deceased at the scene. The parking lot is cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Officials tell ABC15 both officers in Saturday’s shooting have less than five years on the force. “Both were shot multiple times, and both are presently in stable condition….” The gunman was located just beyond the greeter’s area and, when the two officers approached him at the store’s entrance, he turned and opened fire on both of them.

Police were called to the store around 6:30 a.m.

When officers arrived on scene, the suspect fired and struck the officer with no provocation according to witness reports, Tyler said. The first officer was reportedly hit in the head in at least one of multiple shots that were fired. “Both officers were wearing their ballistic vests this morning”.

‘I guess you can call it what you want. Authorities have not yet released the names of the officers, but have indicated they are relatively new to the department.

The store remained closed Saturday afternoon.

A shopper, Cynthia Ayala, described what she heard and saw.

‘I thought it was like pallets falling. “I never thought it would be gunshots”.

She said the shots came one after another and then it became apparent they were bullets.

“Now I’m just waiting for my vehicle”, she said.

She was in the dressing room when the shooting began.

Police helped escort shoppers to the store’s garden center a safe distance away.

Two Chandler police officers were responding to a routine call about trespassing at Walmart.
