2 police officers, suspect shot in Troy, New York

– A man was killed and two Troy police officers were wounded in a shootout linked to an attempted carjacking by gun last night in Troy. The officers followed the suspect, who shot at them and they returned fire, DeWolf said.

Police did not provide any additional information about the incident. “And the mayor is here, the chief is here, the deputy chief, everyone is here everybody’s come in on their own and gathered around this to make sure this investigation is completed and that the officers have the support that they need”, said Troy Police Department spokesman Lt. Daniel DeWolf. Officer Comitale sustained gun shot wounds to both of his lower legs and Officer Klein sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He later died of his injuries. The officers fired back, hitting the suspect. Police did not release the names of the police officers or the third person.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are still processing the scene at this time.

“It’s very stressful, and it tugs at your heart”, Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf said.

Officer Klein is a nine-year member of the Troy Police Department.

Officers Comitale and Klein are being treated at Albany Medical Center.
