2 sent off for Arsenal, Costa escapes red as Chelsea wins

Arsene Wenger clearly didn’t want to shake Jose Mourinho’s hand prior to his side’s meeting with Chelsea on Saturday.

Belgium midfielder Hazard guaranteed the champions’ second league victory of the season in the 90th minute when his strike deflected off Calum Chambers to leave the Gunners without a league success against the Blues since 2011.

Asked by BT Sport if he felt a sense of injustice, Wenger replied: A big one, yes.

The match was toxic at best with Arsenal getting two red cards to boot. “I do not understand (referee) Mike Dean’s decision at all“, Wenger said. “Costa twice should be sent off. He hits him [Koscielny] in the face on objective “.

“Look at the pictures, it tells you a lot on slow motion. We gave them no chance”. When somebody touches him he goes down like he has been killed.

Costa was hit with a retrospective three-game ban for treading on Liverpool’s Emre Can in a League Cup tie last season and Wenger invited the Football Association to look at his latest indiscretion. However, the match was marred by an ugly incident between Diego Costa and Gabriel with the latter being sent off in the first half.

Speaking on Final Score, former Tottenham striker Garth Crooks pulled no punches when delivering his assessment of Dean’s decision to send off Gabriel.

Costa clashed with Laurent Koscielny inside the Arsenal penalty area and then tussled with Gabriel, which led to yellow cards for both players.

“That is why you have full stadiums, you sell to televisions around the world for millions and millions because the game has to be played like that”. I don’t know why, perhaps it is because they won that game. He knows I care about him as a player and a person.

Zouma, 20, took a leaf out of Terry’s book when he ventured forward at a free kick early in the second half to score his first ever Premier League goal with a downward header.

“Gabriel is sent off – okay I accept he hasn’t to react – and after that on their first goal I couldn’t see a free-kick [in the build-up]”.

On the half-time withdrawal of Francis Coquelin, Wenger added: “He has a little knee problem”. We dominated the game psychologically.
