Detective Sgt. Steve Scharschmidt told the media that the driver was in the parking lot of the concert, and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, resulting in her driving into the dance floor and injuring eight people and herself.

As reported by the New York Daily #News, Damion Fontaine, one of the performers on stage who sings as Frank Sinatra, said on Facebook that he watched as the elderly driver plowed into the crowd near or on the dance floor.

Prosecutors will determine whether charges will be filed against a 74-year-old Parma Heights woman who crashed her auto into a crowd at an outdoor concert Sunday evening, injuring eight people, police said.

The driver then tried to maneuver the auto forward, but crashed into a telephone pole and then a parked vehicle. Three people received treatment and have already been released from the hospital, and three others were treated for minor injuries at the scene, Scharschmidt said. All were aged in their 60s or 70s.

It happened Sunday night in Parma Heights, about 10 miles south of Cleveland.

The dancefloor was located in a parking lot at Greenbrier Commons, which shares a parking lot with the Parma Heights Police Department.

“We had an officer inside who had heard all the people screaming and he went out the front door”, Mr Scharschmidt said.

She indicated to Scharschmidt that another driver was eyeing the parking space she was vacating, and her vehicle was angled toward the dance floor.
