KATC/Facebook Two teachers, Jena Meaux and Ali Martin, have been called heros for their actions during the Louisana theater shooting. One teacher jumped in front of a bullet, which could’ve hit her friend in the head.
“One of the teachers jumped on top of the second teacher in an act of braveness”, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said at a news conference Thursday night. She was shot in the knee, Henderson said.
“This account is set up to help them defray costs of any medical expenses the insurance will not cover and also any time they may lose as our school year is approaching”, she writes on the page.
“It goes to show you that they didn’t panic and did exactly what was taught”, Maturin said.
“That’s them, that’s who they are”, she told The Post.
“She was an excellent student”, he said.
“It’s something that we practice for”, she said.
“Sydney Lancon was taught by both Meaux and Martin at Jeanerette Senior High School”. Both women were shot in their legs and were hospitalized, .
“Who could imagine on a Thursday evening sitting there watching a movie in Lafayette, Louisiana, and have something like this happen”, he said. “You’re not in that mode of thinking, but evidently, they both reacted very well and very quickly”.

Those who know the teachers have expressed no surprise at their self-sacrifice, suggesting their respective responses are completely in keeping with the type of people they are. Teachers naturally have the instinct deep down in their souls to help others. They protect. Maybe that’s what was happening with them last night… “They were waiting for information on their loved ones”, he said, adding that the families hoped their loved ones would recover. But more than thoughts and prayers, let us take action to curb gun violence and end these mass shootings for once and for all.
