“I had a wonderful discussion with Donald Trump and I emphasized that I’m focused on Iowa”.

“There are people far more suited for being a candidate for vice president and I think I’m far more suited for other types of things”, Corker told the newspaper.

Corker said he’d spent about eight hours with Trump on Tuesday, meeting with several of his children and aides in NY. “A lot of people are calling me that you wouldn’t even think about”.

“His best running mate, by the way, would be Ivanka”, Corker told CNN’s Manu Raju during an interview on Capitol Hill.

“The last five or six days have been very negative”, Corker said in early June. How much “advising” they will do for Trump is questionable, as many Republicans will keep their distance.

But the Trump scandal factory continued to churn out products: every time Corker was asked about the latest news, he looked a little more dejected.

The junior senator got a chance to audition for the vice presidential job at a Trump rally in North Carolina this week where he gushed about the brash businessman.

Trump also continued to defend an anti-Hillary Clinton tweet featuring what appeared to be a Star of David imposed on piles of money, blasting those who called the image anti-Semitic.

Now Ernst is also reportedly withdrawing her name from consideration.

Ernst, for her part, told Politico that she favors Pence, calling him “so well rounded” and “a great conservative”. And I think frankly, we don’t want to do the executive orders, like Obama’s been doing.

Just two weeks from the Republican National Convention, Trump’s vice presidential search – and speculation about who he’ll pick – is at a fever pitch. Interestingly, both said they will be available to Trump as advisors, but neither fell into the Trump trap that could end a political career.

Trump has said his list remains at about 10 people. “And they want to be considered”.

And Gingrich certainly has the political background that Trump has repeatedly indicated he’s looking for.

The Tennessee Republican has recently been warming up to Trump and in May offered to advise Trump on foreign policy at the real estate mogul’s request. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Some of the speculated front-runners are Governor Pence, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich.
