A 20-year-old who may well be the world’s most spoiled brat torched his Ferrari so he could use the insurance money to buy a newer model.

The salesman of the dealership hatched a plan to have insurance pay out a claim on the damaged auto so the spoilt kid could get a newer model.

But for a young 20-year-old lad from Augsburg, Germany, his financial concerns were focused exclusively on how to upgrade his existing auto – a Ferrari 458 Italia valued at around £200,000 (RM1.25 million).

That didn’t stop the enterprising youth from recruiting three accomplices to take the vehicle across the border to Germany, where it was torched in an attempt to collect an insurance settlement. His other cars include a Lamborghini. Unfortunately for the group, security camera footage and telephone recordings pinned them to the crime.

Prosecutors were pushing for a jail sentence for those involved in the plan, but the judge instead opted for a period of probation and a fine of €30,000 (£21,500). His three accomplices received probations of 14 to 16 months each. And though the engine is a screamer, it also delivers at least 80 percent of the rated 400-pound-feet of torque from 3,250 rpm.

On the other hand, the 458 Speciale’s output has been raised to 597 horsepower at a screaming 9,000 rpm and 398-pound-feet of torque delivered at 6,000 rpm.

The young man told the court that at the time of the offence he was low on cash but did not have the courage to tell his father that he had become bored with the Ferrari.
