2016 race barrels toward potentially decisive primary day

OH and Florida have winner-take-all contests with a total of 165 delegates up for grabs.

Marco Rubio was in his home city of Miami for a homecoming rally at the West Miami Rec Center.

In the Republican primary, NY businessman Donald Trump is looking to distance himself from a field that still includes Sen.

But the race is much closer there, and Kasich is now tied with Trump.

And the Democrats must be privately pleased that the anti-Trump movement could split the GOP going into the fall election.

But Sanders pulled an upset last week in MI, where polls had showed Clinton leading by as many as 20 points. He also leads in Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina. US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is second, with Rubio and Kasich trailing and counting on their home states to keep them in the race. “Who wins in Florida and OH will determine the probability of whether any candidate will receive a majority by the last contest in June”.

There are opportunities for Cruz to rack up delegates – particularly in down-state IL congressional districts, Missouri and North Carolina. Madison County Republican Party Chairman, Sam Givhan, says voters need to understand if Trump can not secure the 51% a contested convention must happen. He could potentially knock out two of his rivals, Ohio Governor John Kasich and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, if he wins their states.

Trump has tried to shift attention away from the intense criticism that followed Friday’s harrowing scenes in Chicago, where he cancelled a scheduled rally amid sometimes violent confrontations among his supporters, protesters and authorities.

Latino voters are a key demographic for Clinton, not only in her primary against rival Bernie Sanders but in the general election. He would cross an important threshold by collecting more than 50 percent of the delegates awarded so far.

Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders: Called Mr Trump a “pathological liar” after he said he had sent protesters to disrupt his rallies.

“They’re already calling. I have the biggest people in the party – if there is such a thing, because I’m not sure exactly, when we use the word “establishment”, what it means, ‘ he said Tuesday morning on the ‘Today” show.

Cruz has been casting Trump as a hypocrite for weeks, noting his past donations to Democrats including Hillary Clinton.

Rubio with three wins has 163 delegates, while Kasich, who is yet to win a single state, has 63 delegates.

“I’m going to win OH, and it’s going to be a whole new ballgame”, Kasich said on Fox News on Monday, adding he did not believe any candidate would have enough delegates to clinch the nomination outright before the convention.

Clinton has the huge lead in delegates – 1,231 to 576.

On Monday, Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, pounded Clinton’s past support for trade deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico.

The delegate math is stacked against Sanders’ hopes of accepting the party’s nomination in Philadelphia in late July. During his five-year tenure in the Buckeye State’s corner office, Kasich accepted the expansion of Medicaid as part of the Affordable Care Act, unlike many of his Republican counterparts.
