Police said the victim, 25-year-old Tulane student Peter Gold, was driving in the area of the 1000 block of Saint Mary Street when he saw a woman being dragged toward a SUV.
The image caught on surveillance video is a chilling one. Surveillance footage Gold pleading with the gunman while holding his hands in the air.
As Gold crouched at the victim’s side in an effort to help her, the assailant jumped out of a sport utility vehicle, pointed a semi-automatic weapon at Gold and demanded money.
After an argument about money, the gunman fired a shot into Peter Gold’s stomach before trying to kill him.
The woman lost her purse, but was otherwise unharmed. The entire heart-pounding incident was captured from above by a private security camera, according to police.
Euric Cain was arrested on November 23, 2015 after shooting a medical student in New Orleans.
NEW ORLEANS -The man suspected of shooting a Tulane medical studentis in custody, New Orleans police tell CBS News. Detectives were able to identify Cain as the suspect.
Tulane President Mike Fitts said in a statement Friday that Gold “was taken to University Medical Center where he is expected to make a full recovery”. Meanwhile, police say Cain should be considered armed and risky. The woman was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged.
“There is no question – now that we know who he is – that he will be brought to justice”, said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
“We’re going to find you”.
Cain will be found and prosecuted, officials said Sunday, warning that anyone harboring Cain would also be arrested.

“It is clear this is a unsafe individual who doesn’t value the lives of others”, Harrison said, adding that anyone who is hiding or housing Cain will also be charged. “So we would urge anyone who looks at this video that might recognize this person to give us a call or call Crime Stoppers”, Gernon said.
