$25K check given to Munford store that sold $1.5B Powerball ticket
While it may not be $1.6 billion, Veneta resident Dave Braun isn’t complaining about the $50,000 he won in Wednesday’s record-breaking Powerball lottery. “I’m excited”, owner Dana Naifeh said. He says he will share his winnings with employees and family, and give some to charity.

The two other winning tickets were sold in Chino Hills, California; and Munford, Tennessee. But more than 26 million tickets won prizes, many of them not too shabby. People were buying 37,000 Powerball tickets a minute in California, where $386 million in Powerball tickets were sold since November 4, the most of any state and more than California sold in the entire previous fiscal year, spokesman Russ Lopez said.
The winning numbers were 4-8-19-27-34 and the Powerball was 10.
Naifeh’s Food Mart at 27 Crigger Street in Munford sold the winning ticket. “I think it put us on the map – all over the world”, he said, adding that his brother called from Australia overnight to learn if he won.
At least one California resident hit the jackpot in Wednesday’s record $1.586 billion Powerball game. The next Powerball drawing will be this Saturday. She bought the ticket at the Love’s Travel Stop in Little Rock off Interstate 30 near Interstate 430.
Lottery officials in Tennessee say the winning ticket for the record Powerball jackpot in their state was sold in Munford, north of Memphis.
Kenneth Rettig of Beebe also claimed his $100,000 prize Thursday, lottery officials said.
Lottery officials confirmed one jackpot-winning ticket was sold at Balbir Atwal’s store located at Chino Hills in California. “I’m very happy. This is very exciting”. Dalton reported from Los Angeles. Some of the biggest Powerball sales have come from cities bordering states that don’t sell the tickets, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.
The most recent was on May 25, 2013, claimed by The Williams Trust of New Orleans which split a $50 million jackpot with two other winning tickets sold in DE and Florida.

The ticket was one of 46 third-prize winning winners who matched the four white balls and the Powerball. Thousands upon thousands of Australians found their way to the website, requesting the site’s couriers to get them their official Powerball tickets in the US.
