3 charged with killing tourist, hiker arrive in California
Earlier Monday, Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed first-degree murder charges against the three suspects. A hiker discovered Carter’s body on the Old Railroad Grade hiking trail south of Fairfax on Monday around 6 p.m.

The three suspects arrested in the homicides of a Canadian tourist and tantra instructor have been formally booked into the Marin County jail in connection with a string of crimes, from murder to cruelty to animals, which could possibly lead to death penalty charges.
Police found the body of 23-year-old Audrey Carey in Gold Gate Park on October 3, where she had a gunshot wound to the head. The dog also was shot but is expected to survive. They were captured a week ago in Oregon.
The defendants also are charged with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders, lying in wait and murder while committing a robbery, Berberian said.
Examiners trust Carey was exploring nature in the recreation center, which was facilitating a free, three-day country celebration. It’s unclear if the suspects have attorneys.
The motive for the killings remains “unknown”, police said.
Chaplin said the gun was reported stolen from an unlocked auto parked in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood.
The three were arrested last week in Oregon.
Detectives had tracked them to Portland through the navigation system of Carter’s stolen vehicle, investigators say. San Francisco police were investigating that death before the Marin County slaying, and they contacted Marin County investigators because both shooting murders were in wooded or park areas.
“We will be monitoring the prosecution and will be cooperating with the Marin County DA’s office to bring justice to these victims’ families”, San Francisco district attorney spokesman Alex Bastian said.
Carter lived near the hiking trail where he was shot and drove there to walk his dog.
