Three people were killed and 11 injured Wednesday when an apparent high-speed, two-car crash triggered another collision of four more vehicles on the Long Island Expressway in Queens.

Police said Carmelo Pinales, 26, of Hicksville, apparently lost control of his vehicle, which crossed over a grassy median, went airborne and struck two vehicles.

Two passengers in the rear seat of the sedan were killed; two other passengers were hospitalized, one in critical condition and the other in stable condition.

Police now say Wednesday’s wreck involved seven vehicles on the Long Island Expressway in Maspeth. The driver of the Acura, a 27-year-old man, sustained only minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

Two vehicles collided about 4:20 a.m. then were slammed by the other vehicles.

Investigators believe the driver of the Infinity may have been drag racing with another one of the vehicles in the crash, the New York Post reported.

Half of the split vehicle then slammed into another auto and a large dump truck then apparently tried to avoid that accident and instead three other vehicles collided into each other behind the truck in Maspeth, Queens.

According to police, up to 11 others were injured in the crashes. The other injuries were non-life-threatening. Three people were ejected from the vehicle, who were pronounced dead on the scene.
