3 dead in midair plane crash near west Georgia airport
Carroll County Fire Chief Scott Blue confirms in a phone interview three people died in the Wednesday crash just off the runway at West Georgia Regional Airport.

The FAA and the NTSB were on scene most of Wednesday evening gathering evidence to try to determine what led to the crash.
Authorities identified the pilot of the other plane as William Lindsey, 79, of College Park.
A coroner says two men and one woman died when two single-engine planes collided at a small airport in western Georgia. “Safety of flying is responsibility of the pilot”, former Delta Air Lines pilot Joe Fagendes told CBS 46. Authorities said they were told by witnesses that the two planes entered a landing pattern at the same time above the airport. The name of the third victim had not been released. The crash happened just before 11 a.m. Wednesday in Carroll County, about 45 miles west of Atlanta.
Officials described the airport as “uncontrolled”, meaning there is no air traffic control tower at the airport, and pilots must communicate with one another through a radio channel, which could have contributed to the crash. “One plane set down on top of the other and they both tumbled into the ground”.
Three people have died after two planes smashed in mid-air over Georgia.
The cause of the deadly collision was under investigation. However, Blue says investigators have not confirmed those details. One aircraft was a Diamond Aircraft DA20C1 and the other was a Beech F33A.

First responders found the wreckage of the two planes all twisted and mixed together.
