The small airport is not operated by air-traffic controllers.
“It appeared they both were on a landing pattern”, Carroll County Fire Chief Scott Blue said. One was based in College Park, and the other was believed to have had a flight instructor on board.
Officials said the victims were two men and one woman.

Authorities have released the names of two of the three people who died when two single-engine planes collided at a small airport in western Georgia.
Witnesses and emergency personnel said that the planes appeared to try and land at the same time. A pilot and passenger died onboard the Diamond plane, which the fire chief said was registered to a company that trains pilots in Newnan, 22 miles to the southeast.
He said Lindsey was involved with Angel Flight, which offers free flights to medical patients and their families who otherwise can’t afford it.

Pilots communicate with each other and decided when to take off and land, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
