At a Saturday press conference, Lt. Jeff Hallock told reporters that authorities knew how the escape occurred, but weren’t releasing that information yet.
“We’re exhausting all investigative resources and measures to bring these three inmates back into custody”.
A manhunt is underway for three inmates, including a man charged with murder, who escaped from a jail in Southern California.
Hutchens says investigators have gotten a number of “very good tips” but have had no concrete sightings of the men since their escape Friday from Orange County Central Men’s Jail in Santa Ana.
Once on the roof, they used sheets to rappel to the ground before fleeing.
Nayeri and Duong were ineligible for bail, while Tieu’s had been set at $1 million, Hallock said.
Hallock said it is the first escape from the facility in at least the past 20 years and could be the first-ever breakout from the jail.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department commented on the case. He faces charges of possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting an at inhabited dwelling.
The three escapees were seen in the jail Friday morning, but were discovered to be missing sometime Friday evening, according to a statement from the department. Hossein, who has been in custody since September 2014, faces charges for kidnapping, aggravated mayhem, torture and burglary.
“Each of the three should be viewed as very unsafe”. The paper reported the men were living in Mod F of the housing complex at the jail, which they shared with 65 other prisoners. The plan had possibly been in the works for weeks, or perhaps even months, he added.
Tieu, 20, has been held in the jail since 2013, charged with murder, attempted murder and “shooting at an inhabited dwelling”.
“I think the public should expect the worst if they’re encountering them and call 911 and allow the professionals to respond”, Hallock said.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $30,000 reward- $10,000 for each inmate- and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to their arrest, the sheriff’s department said.
